FREE VIRTUAL EVENT
For two years, Josephine Herrick Project brought participatory photography into a middle school classroom at P396K, The Sid Miller Academy in Brownsville, Brooklyn. It was our second residency with New York City's District 75, which serves students with significant disabilities, including autism, cognitive delays, emotional disabilities and sensory impairments.
Each residency pairs a class with a JHP teaching artist and support staff, with the goal of leaving behind a sustainable, accessible photography program for future students. At P396K, art teacher Mona Doon now leads the class herself, and JHP has begun its next residency at P231K in Borough Park, Brooklyn.
Join us to hear from Ms. Doon and her colleague, classroom teacher Michael Calixte, in a 30-minute virtual conversation on Wednesday, October 28 at 2:30 PM ET.
They will share what they witnessed in the classroom over two years, how photography shaped the way their students learn, connect and express themselves, and why participatory photography matters for every student.
Registration is required to join, and attendance is open to all. Please feel free to share this invitation with your networks.
